Welcome to Iyashi Psychology,
Your story. Your healing. Your pace.
About Iyashi
Psychology that sees the whole person — not just the presenting problem.
Iyashi Psychology was founded by Akaash Kumar, a registered Psychologist with a deep commitment to making quality mental health care accessible to the people who need it most.
Before establishing Iyashi, Akaash spent years working within community organisations dedicated to disability support and complex mental health care — walking alongside people with disability, individuals and families facing significant trauma, and those navigating profound life hardship. It was in those roles that a quiet but persistent conviction took hold: that so many people — particularly those from culturally diverse backgrounds, those living with disability, and those coming from complex histories — were navigating a mental health system that wasn't quite built for them.
Iyashi Psychology is his answer to that gap.
A Different Kind of Practice
The name says it all. Iyashi (癒し) is a Japanese word meaning healing, soothing, comfort, and solace — and that spirit is woven into everything we do here.
Akaash brings a Indo-Fijian heritage and a lived understanding of what it means to move between cultures, to carry the weight of family and community expectations, and to seek help in spaces that don't always reflect your experience. That background isn't incidental to his practice — it's central to it. He understands that healing doesn't happen in a vacuum, and that culture, identity, and community are always part of the picture.
What sets Akaash apart is the care he brings to every single client. He doesn't work from a template. He takes time to genuinely understand who you are, where you've come from, and what you're carrying — and he approaches your care accordingly. Every person who walks through the door of Iyashi Psychology is treated as exactly that: a whole person, not a diagnostic category.
Who We Work With
Akaash works with children, adolescents, and adults across the full lifespan. He has specialist experience in complex trauma, depression, anxiety, neurodiversity, and culturally responsive care — and a particular commitment to serving communities that have historically been underserved by mainstream psychology.
Whether you're seeking therapy, an assessment, or simply a space where you finally feel understood, Iyashi Psychology is here.
"The things that have shaped you — your history, your culture, your experiences, the hard seasons you've survived — are not obstacles to your healing. They are part of your story. And your story deserves to be understood fully, held gently, and met with the kind of care that sees all of you.
Wherever you are right now, you don't have to stay there.
And you don't have to find your way forward alone."
Psychological Assessment
Understanding how your mind works is the first step toward the right support. We offer comprehensive psychological assessments for children, adolescents, and adults — including ADHD, autism, combined assessments, cognitive and learning assessments, specific learning disorders, and giftedness. Our assessments are thorough, neuroaffirming, and designed to give you real clarity, not just a diagnosis.
Our Services
Individual Therapy
Life can be heavy, and you don't have to carry it alone. Our individual therapy services support children, adolescents, and adults navigating complex trauma, anxiety, depression, neurodiversity, grief, and more. Drawing on evidence-based approaches including EMDR, CBT, and ACT, we offer culturally responsive, trauma-informed care that meets you exactly where you are.
Training & Development
Building workplaces and communities that truly understand mental health starts with the right knowledge. We offer professional training and development in trauma-informed practice, neurodiversity awareness, and culturally responsive care — designed for organisations, teams, and practitioners who want to do better by the people they serve.
