Training & Development
Because better understanding changes everything.
Real change in how organisations, teams, and communities support mental health doesn't happen through a single policy or a tick-box exercise. It happens when the people doing the work genuinely understand the humans in front of them — their histories, their neurology, their culture, and their needs.
At Iyashi Psychology, our training and development programs are designed to do exactly that. Led by registered psychologist Akaash Kumar, our workshops and professional development sessions bring clinical depth, cultural warmth, and real-world experience into the room. We don't do generic. Every program we deliver is grounded in evidence, shaped by lived experience, and tailored to the people and context we're working with.
Whether you're a healthcare team wanting to better support the people in your care, a school navigating complex student needs, or a residential service ready to embed more responsive practice — we're here to help you get there.

Our Training Programs
-
This foundational program explores what Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) really means in practice — moving beyond behaviour management toward genuine understanding of the person behind the behaviour. Participants leave with a deeper appreciation of the function of behaviour, practical frameworks for support, and a renewed commitment to dignity-centred care.
Suitable for disability support workers, team leaders, allied health professionals, and community service staff.
-
Grief is often an invisible presence in the lives of people with disability — and one of the most underrecognised drivers of behaviour. This program explores how loss, change, and grief show up in the people we support, and how PBS frameworks can be enriched with genuine grief sensitivity to deliver more compassionate, effective care.
Suitable for disability support workers, residential care staff, allied health professionals, and OOHC practitioners.
-
Culture shapes behaviour, communication, family dynamics, and what support looks like — yet it is frequently absent from PBS practice. This program invites practitioners to examine their own cultural assumptions and develop the reflexivity needed to deliver PBS that is genuinely responsive to the diverse communities they serve.
Suitable for practitioners, allied health teams, disability support services, and community organisations working with culturally diverse populations.
-
Schools are complex environments — and for many students, particularly those with disability, trauma histories, or neurodevelopmental differences, they can be sites of significant stress. This program equips educators and school staff with the knowledge and tools to apply PBS principles in the classroom and broader school community, supporting inclusion, wellbeing, and genuine participation.
Suitable for teachers, school counsellors, student support staff, and education leadership teams.
-
Designed for practitioners and support workers who regularly encounter people experiencing psychological distress, this program builds confidence in recognising, understanding, and responding to a range of psychological symptoms. Participants develop practical skills for assessment, de-escalation, and appropriate referral — grounded in a trauma-informed and person-centred framework.
Suitable for healthcare teams, allied health professionals, residential care staff, and community service workers.
Who We Work With
Our training programs are delivered across a range of settings including schools, residential care environments (including Out of Home Care and Specialist Disability Accommodation), disability service providers, healthcare teams, and community organisations. We bring the same commitment to culturally responsive, strengths-based practice to our training as we do to our clinical work.
Akaash has extensive experience delivering professional development within disability and out of home care services, and was a featured presenter at the Centre of Excellence OPEN Symposium 2025.
Our Training Style
Training with Iyashi Psychology is never a passive experience. Our sessions are interactive, collaborative, and grounded in both clinical evidence and lived experience. We create space for honest conversation, genuine reflection, and practical skill-building — because we believe the best learning happens when people feel safe enough to engage fully.
Every program is tailored to your team, your context, and the people you support. We don't believe in one-size-fits-all professional development, and neither should you.
Training Formats
We offer flexible delivery to suit your organisation's needs:
